Mitigating Misalignment
Exacerbating misalignment is the norm
Without awareness, we're flapping in the breezes our whims. According to Ayurveda, in our mechanical modes, we often choose what exacerbates imbalance. Whether it's our nature, unresolved trauma or imbalanced guna-s, we make decisions from our imbalances. Enter: Yoga, also known wisely by our favorite acarya TKV Desikachar, as awareness.
What's the remedy? Locating the YOU within the jungle of your life. You can "season" your discipline to promote alignment with your soul by practicing satyam. Because a common interpretation of satyam is truthfulness, we’ll bypass that today. Instead, let’s examine alignment, in essence, Yoga, in its grand sense of unification. Be true to yourself.
We fragment throughout this complex life. Our chosen and assigned roles, society’s projected norms (that often have nothing to do with who we are) and our inherent strengths and weakness toss us around. Our kleśa-s and their vrtti-s, kama, lobha, krodha, moha, mada and matsarya, trick us into thinking we are of the world instead of in it. Authenticity is buried so deeply within us, it’s largely invisible and inaccessible, without deep commitment to self-realization practices.
Instead of pumping up the volume, quiet down. Fluctuating between excess and deficiency to compensate for lack of appropriate self discipline is exhausting. Notice your sensory distractions, and where they arise from. Quell the impetus to self medicate by living in tune with nature’s cycles. Wake at sunrise, practice early, eat timely, dosha and seasonally local and appropriate meals, move, sleep early. Get fresh air every day, not just on the way to or from the car or public transport, but with intention. Talk to well wishers. Connect to something higher throughout the day, whether it’s at meals or between calls, meetings or clients.
Whatever helps balance you will also reveal your true essence. What’s for you, you will attract and move towards. What’s not, you’ll no longer be ruled by, and with practice, and clarity and strength, you’ll more easily release. Adding, subtracting, assessing, adjusting and becoming.
