What are you one with?

What are you one-ing with right now?

Is it tiredness from an iffy sleep last night? A happy memory? A decision you are in the midst of? Planetary problems? An ailment? The recent rain spells in NY metro area? Is Father's Day feels? Anticipation of a pending interaction? Is it grief about a loved one? A regret?

You may think that you are alone: you are not! The inner you is always with the outer you; however, the roles have been reversed. Emotions, hormones, thoughts and patterns are so strong, that they hijack our whole system. We function as if we are what we’re thinking, feeling. As if we are the job promotion, or loss. As if we are the marriage, the break up. As if we are consumed by what we are experiencing, because we are.

What’s coming may sound creepy at first, until it brings relief from feeling overwhelmed, overcome and stuck. There are at least two of you inhabiting your personal space in this life, and actually it's a lot more multifaceted than that. Your 24/7 team in this life, the purusa and prakti, are completely co-dependent. They are described as a blind person who is unable to see but can walk only (the prakrti, our “matter” part) and a person who is unable to walk but can see only (the purusa, our “inner guide” part). Neither can function on their own. They need each other to be in the world, whole and functional.

What do they do? They cooperate, in the best of times. The person who can see hops on the person who can move and tells them where to go, guides the path, which is traversed by both together. It’s when the one who can’t see begins to take over and cover the eyes of the clear-visioned guide that we start to stumble, and according to Yoga, this is the norm.

Take back your power. Identify what is hijacking it and faithfully put in the right efforts to reduce your personal hindrances to your clarity, conviction and right action, the action that comes from the inner you. Punctuate your days with practice, study and connection to people on the path, and watch it open before you.
